How to use Record Slide Show function for a video playing on a ppt slide?

I am trying to record a powerpoint presentation that includes a slide with a youtube video.

When I use the "Record Slide Show" function, and play the youtube video - the visual does not get recorded (stays as the still frame of the video before I click play).

Also, the audio is being picked up through my webcam microphone - is there a way for it to be recorded from the system sound to improve quality?

I can provide a copy of my powerpoint, if that helps with troubleshooting.

Appreciate your help!

    Hi

Thank you for your update and reply.

First, I would like to deliver my apologize because I think I have some misunderstanding in my last reply. And after I carefully discussed your case with my colleagues. We found that the problem you meet is because your microphone record not only your voice but also the voice from speaker. Please allow me explain that:

    1. The “record slide show” only can set a microphone to record your voice, but not from system sound, that is expected. Because the “record slide show” needs to record your voice. Your voice will be recorded through the microphone and your voice will be saved as an audio file on the slide. See the screenshot below.

2.However, if you are not using a headphone or like mobile ear phone, your webcam microphone can also record the voice from speaker while recording your voice. In this scenario, if you click the audio file I mentioned above, you can hear the low quality mixed voice. It will play together with the video when you “slide show”.

    1. so if you want to solve it For this problem, you may need to use a headset to prevent the sound of this video from mixing into your voice when you are speaking. Then you will hear “only the voice from video” and “your speak voice from microphone”. Both of them will be clear

4.However, if you are in a meeting and need to show this video loudly with a speaker, you can only reduce the volume of the video as much as possible.

Unfortunately, this may be the working principle of this function. It seems that there is no particularly good way to meet your requirements. Your understanding is greatly appreciated.

    Best Regards

    Ethan

    Hi

Thank you for your question in this community. I am willing to help you. I suggest you try the following:

Generally, when you use Record a slide show feature in PowerPoint app, it will only record the audio during the recording via sound card, microphone, and speakers or Video narrations if your device is connected to Web cam. So, per your description, you are referring that Record a slide show is not capturing the visuals of inserted YouTube video; If so, the behavior you are seeing should be normal because it will only record an audio during the recording or your video narration if you are connected to Web cam and turned it on while recording slide show.

Reference: Record a slide show with narration and slide timings - Office Support (microsoft.com)

Coming to the audio is being picked up through my webcam microphone, may be you can change the connection to Speaker so that the audio of YouTube can be better than audio from Microphone for recording.

At last, if you want to record the visuals of inserted YouTube video, you can use Screen Recording feature in PowerPoint app. Reference: Record your screen in PowerPoint - PowerPoint (microsoft.com)

Also, I will keep this thread open so PowerPoint MVP’s can share their ideas about this scenario.

    Best regards

    Ethan

Thanks Ethan for your prompt reply, and so sorry for my tardy one!

The screen recording worked for capturing the visual, so thank you very much for that! It did not capture the audio - however, that might be because of restrictions on my work PC that prevents me from recording system audio during screen recording. I will need to try it on a personal PC, and if it works, I will then need to see if the "Record a slide show" function will pick up both the visual and audio (presently it is picking up the visual through this work-around).

Using the "Record a slide show" function, I haven't been able to change the audio to take it from the speakers rather than the microphone - can't find the options to do so.

So I may need to use the lower quality audio recording through the microphone, unless anyone knows how to change the input into a "Record a slide show" function so that it records system audio?
