HOW CAN I INSERT SHAPES IN WORD? WHERE HAS THIS GONE?

It used to be possible to insert shapes in Word from the "Insert" tab, but this has disappeared. If i try to add it via "customize ribbon" I get a useless message about "commands need to be added to custom groups". Why would they remove this? I'm sick of wasting my time on issues like this.

On the Insert tab, you'll find Shapes in the Illustrations group.

What is missing for you, exactly? If you can't see the Insert tab at all, maybe your document is displayed in the Read Mode.

    Hi,

Thanks for responding. There is no "illustrations" group in the insert tab. All I have is Pages, Tables, Add-ins, Media, Comments, Header & Footer, Text, Symbols and Flash

I have found a work-around. If I type "insert shape" in the help window at the top, the "insert shapes" option appears, or I can copy-paste from another document. I am sick of these inconveniences in Word, but I guess it's designed for specialists, rather than people who need to produce ordinary documents.

Have you had any luck repairing the installation or resetting the ribbon?

Ribbon customizations can be made in VBA, via an add-in, or they can be implemented through custom XML.

Upload a screen shot of your Insert tab, so that I can take a closer look.

Also, which specific version of Office are you running? Click File > Account, assuming that you are running Windows.

Have you tried resetting the ribbon (to default settings)?

Also/alternatively, you may need to repair your installation; see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/repair-an-office-application-7821d4b6-7c1d-4205-aa0e-a6b40c5bb88b.
