Can't access Personal Vault in Onedrive on my Windows PC

I had transferred everything to personal vault within my OneDrive as I thought it would be an additional layer of protection.

For more than a month now I have not been able to access my personal vault via my PC.

I had the following error message: "Your Personal Vault isn't available right now" - We couldn't unlock your personal vault because a file or folder you were working on is open in an application. Please close it, then select try again. If this doesn't fix the problem, sign out or restart your device.

Error code: 0x8031b00a

I have contacted Microsoft support numerous times but they have not been able to assist me with my unique problem it appears!

I have tried - resetting, uninstalling and reinstalling, plus other troubleshooting - without success.

Now the option to click to unlock my personal vault in onedrive on my PC is not even visible (within the OneDrive app, or in Windows Explorer).

Please help - I need this sorted URGENTLY! Thank you!

Note: I can access online, but I want/need to be able to access and work on everything on my PC!

    Hello Candice,
    Try this.
Open Windows Files Explorer > Open the main OneDrive folder, normally the path for the folder is:
    C:\Users\YourUaerName\OneDrive\

Then, in the File Explorer ribbon bar click in View tab and tick the option to see "Hidden" files.
Check out if appears another folder with the Personal Vault name a rename it or move to other location not synced in your PC.

Hi Renzo, thank you so much for your quick response. I tried all those steps, unfortunately did not fix the issue :(

I've attached some photos to try provide some additional information (photo 1 - the option to even select personal vault to unlock is no longer visible/an option):

Photo 2 and 3 show view within Windows Explorer - there is no option to unlock the personal vault (and also additional folders/shortcuts keep being created e.g. "Personal Vault-DESKTOP-7K6OGJT" - is this normal?):

And this was the original issue but now I can't even try to unlock my personal vault via my PC:

Please let me know if you have any other suggestions. Or if anyone else has had this issue - please let me know if anything fixed it!

Thank you again Renzo for your quick response!

Appreciate any advice or help !!! Thank you!

    Kind regards,

    Candice

    Dear C-J-90,

I am Renzo, as an Independent Advisor and Office user, I'll help you with your question.

You could try with following process:

    1. You can try with an OneDrive Reset, so take a look at following process on the link:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/rese...

    1. If previous process does not works, you could re-install OneDrive client with following process;

Do you know how work with the "Regedit"?

    1. So, with the keys combinations (Windows + R), you'll open the "Run" windows, then type: regedit

We need to find OneDrive folder and delete it.

you will find it in this path:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\OneDrive

Expand Microsoft folder click on the "arrow", inside you'll see the OneDrive folder, click with "Right-Click" over OneDrive folder and delete all.

This process only remove OneDrive configuration, the data will be fine.

Take a look more information in following support:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/how-...

    1. Next, uninstall OneDrive client from Control Panel and re-install again, you can download it from following link:

    https://support.office.com/en-us/article/onedri...

Download the last "Production Ring" version and install it.

    1. Open the app and sign in, then when you select the folder location for OneDrive (use default folder), maybe will appears a message that says "This folder already has information/data", so, in the same way, select that location and accept.
