    Word is able to open PDF files. Note that Word can only edit PDFs that are "text-based."

    A scanned PDF, for example, won't be editable in Word, unless you do OCR (optical character recognition) using third-party software.

    Hi Wickie,

    Thank you for posting your question in this community.

    As PDF is a file format is not a file format develop by Microsoft, With the Microsoft service, I am afraid, we cannot edit PDF first directly with Office apps.

    However, in Word app, it provides a similar ability to allow user open and “edit” PDF file. But please take note that you are not editing on the original PDF file. When you open PDF file in Word app, Word app will convert PDF file into a Word format copy for displaying and editing.
