I am not getting the formula hints below after you select a certain formula. For example, when you choose a sum formula, in a little box below, it should say SUM(number1,[number2],...). I am not getting this help of what to input when using these formulas.

I'm sure Shane appreciates your gratitude but I'm not so sure how it could be helpful unless you were able to interpret it for Mac Excel. Those steps are for the Windows product... as written they cannot be followed in Excel for Mac :-) On a Mac:

  • Go to Excel> Preferences> View then check the box for Function Screen Tips.

You also may want to visit Excel> Preferences> AutoComplete to confirm the appropriate boxes are checked for those options as well.

    Hi,

Choose File, Options (or More, Options), Advanced, and under Display, and turn on Show function screen tips.

"I'm not so sure how it could be helpful"

I don't have a working Mac so the best I can do is give an idea how it's done on a PC. These suggestions sometimes help users of different versions and even different OS's.

I had a nice new Mac Pro desktop (cylinder) but it overheated and burned out the SSDs. It was 1 month out of warranty and Apple refused to cover it. They knew of the overheating issue and never made another Mac Pro of this type; they have now gone back to the standard desktop ignoring the "Cylinder".

Bob, as I understand it the goal of this site is to exchange ideas. If you don't believe a response is good, just submit your own.

No criticism intended. Just explaining to the OP why s/he might be having difficulty following the steps.

Sorry to hear about the Pro. Did Apple do nothing to compensate those who were affected?
