Need to add a new series to chart in excel in online Office 365

Hi

I am trying to add a series to an existing chart. I am using Excel online in Office 365. Just cannot find the Add Data Series option. Please help.

    Hi Farooq,

    Thanks for posting back and sharing details about your requirement.

    I'm afraid it's not available to get the desktop Excel result when using Excel online version. I do understand it has affected your daily work and feel very sorry about it.

    I still recommend you share feedback by clicking Help tab>Feedback in Excel online as this is the best way to let Excel developers know your requirements and comments, improve the product and make it better for you and others.

    Hi Farooq,

    Welcome to community.

    For "Add Data Series" option, does it mean adding a series by right clicking the existing chart > select "Select Data" > when the Select Data Source dialog box appears, click Add to add a new series? If I misunderstand, please correct me.

    If my understanding of the "Add Data Series" option is right, I'm afraid only desktop version of Excel has this option, the option is not available in Excel online. Thanks for your understanding.

    I sincerely recommend sharing your valuable feedback by clicking Help tab > Feedback, this is the best way to let the developers know your requirements and help to improve the product.

    If you have Excel desktop app installed, you may try to click "Open in Desktop app" to open the file in Excel app and add a new series.

    In addition, when I test from my side in Excel online, I find that I can add a new series by selecting the existing chart, click Chart tab from ribbon, then select "Select Data" from Data group, the select data dialog box will appear and I can modify the data range to include the new series data, for example, =A1:C5 click OK, the new series will be added in the chart. You may have a try.

    Thanks for such a detailed response. Really appreciate your time and effort.

    I do not have Desktop version of Excel on my current machine so I am using the online version. I tried your suggestion but it not give me the desired result. I am posting the screenshot from it and also a screenshot from a Desktop version on another machine. I still have other steps complete to get to the end result but the screenshots are up to the point where I have just added the second series.

    The chart type is 2-D Bar graph. The results are clearly different. Is there a way to get the Desktop result while using the Online version.

    Online (as per suggestion)

    Desktop (Right click chart --> Select Data --> Add)

    IMHO only the Desktop versions are able to create single series from non-adjacent data.
