I have headings and tables as shown below. Any time I try to insert a blank line or page break between a table and the next heading, it either just adds a row to the table OR it screws up the headings below the table. There is nowhere for me to click between the table and the next heading. please help - very frustrated.

Thanks Trent

You missed a step: "Format the new paragraph with the body text style that you are using."

A screen shot will be more helpful that trying to re-create the effect on a web page.

Have you tried formatting your headings (or heading style) as "Page break before"?

When I do that, it just creates a new heading (1.3) and leaves the old heading (1.2) blank, see below. I don't want to create a new heading, I just want to insert blank lines / page breaks between my existing headings.....thanks!

Click just to the left of Usability. Press Return. Format the new paragraph with the body text style that you are using.

Word is easier to work with if you have the formatting characters turned on. For this example, choose File>Options>Display and check Paragraph marks.
