Header & footer repeating when I don't want them to

I have a template that has two separate headers and footers in section 1 (page 1) & 2 (page 2).

When I copy a document that is two pages long, the section 1 header and footer appear on page 2 as well when I want page two to show section 2 header and footer. What is up with that?

If you open Layout>Page Setup and switch to the Layout tab, is the option for Different first page checked? That's the option that allows you to have a different header on page 1 without inserting the moveable section break you are using currently.

When you select "Different first page," anything you entered into the header will now be in the main header (shown on page 2 onwards). Similarly, content in the footer will be shown in the main footer.

If you temporarily add a second page, for example by adding a manual page break, you can copy the main header (and/or footer) and paste it into the first header (and/or footer).

Also, remember that each type of header (and each type of footer) must be separately linked/unlinked from its "neighbor" of the same type in the preceding section. (If both "Different first page" and "Different odd and even" are selected, each section has three headers, and three footers: first page, odd page, even page.)

If you did a Save As before making that change, open the old version and copy the first page header from it.

Thanks for this John. After checking that box, I now have a blank page as page 1. Is there a way for the header and footer that was created to still be there or do I have to recreate it?
