Invalid date format in Create Item

Hello i would like to ask.

I created a flow with power Automate but when I run the flow I encountered error The 'inputs.parameters' of workflow operation 'Create_item' of type 'OpenApiConnection' is not valid. Error details: Input parameter 'item/StartDate' is required to be of type 'String/date'. The runtime value '""' to be converted doesn't have the expected format 'String/date'.

I've tried changing the date and time type to text in column list but it ended up showing the date as something like 44xxx (as number) and when i changed the type again to date & time the whole dates in that column disappeared (data lost). I've tried changing the date format in excel as well... but it's still showing error. The format date that i use in excel is MM/DD/YY.

I've tried applied column type as date & time (friendly format) and ended up with a blank columns

Is there any way to fix this error?

Really appreciate a feedback.

Thanks in advance

    Hi Tia_TK,

Thank you for spending time doing the test and sharing with us your test result. It seems like after you fill the empty cells, the is imported to SharePoint list but you still get error message when running the flow.

You may try to create a new SharePoint list and test again, see if flow will work fine.

In addition, if you are willing, you may create a new SharePoint list and change the column type to Single line of text column, then run flow to import data again.

When we test from our side with this column type, the flow will work.

In addition, I understand the file is confidential. If it's possible and if you are willing, you may create a sample file and remove all confidential information, then share the file with us via private message. Then we can test the file and see if we can reproduce the issue and help you do further investigation.

    Appreciate your time and effort.

    Best regards,

    Tina

    Hi Tia_TK,

Thank you for posting back and sharing the detailed information with us.

I understand the error message appears when you try to run the flow to import the Excel data to a SharePoint list.

To better understand the scenario and help you further troubleshoot the issue, if it’s convenient, could you please share following information?

1.A screenshot of the data in your Excel file.

2.A screenshot of the Power Automate flow you created. (Better to expand each connector to show details, so that we can see the detailed settings)

Appreciate your patience and effort so far.

    Best Regards,

    Tina

    Hi Tia_TK,

    Welcome to community.

I go through the post carefully. It seems like you encountered an error when running a flow.

May I know do you want to use a flow to create a SharePoint list by importing data from an Excel workbook?

If so, in the flow, I suggest you to use ISO 8601 for DateTime Format, as shown below.

In addition, I notice you have post another thread which has similar issue: Invalid date format while importing from excel to sharepoint list

May I know if the situation is that you created a SharePoint list by using an Excel workbook which contains dates. But the dates value doesn't display properly? I notice you have shared screenshot of what the imported list look like in the thread mentioned above.

Per my test, if we create a new list by using an Excel workbook, the date column will change to Number column when importing. But if we change the column type to "Date and time" before clicking Next, when the SharePoint list is generated, the dates will display as date, not number.

If you create a new SharePoint list from the Excel workbook, then change column type to Date and time before click Next, and create the SharePoint list. Does it work?

If you still get error message when running flow, please share with us following information for further troubleshooting.

1.Please share a full screenshot of the error which will help us better understand the scenario.

2.Please also share a full screenshot of your flow.

Many thanks for your patience and effort.

Hope you are keeping safe and well.

    Best Regards,

    Tina

    Hi Tina,

This is how my excel sheet in share points looks like (with dummy data).

The date format is DD/MM/YYYY and I already changed the regional fomat Setting to UK.

This is how my flow looks like.

As much as i know actually we only have to use this step, but when i tried to process I got an error with the date.

Also I've tried using this link as reference to fix my problem Solved: Manipulating Flow Excel Date - Power Platform Community (microsoft.com) but it seems like it's not working either.

    Hi Tina,

Thank you for answering my questions.

I've tried changingthe date time format as suggested to ISO 8610, with excel file dates format in dd/mm/yyyy.

And this is the result that comes out when I tried running the flow.

Previously, I tried to import the excel data manually to sharepoint list using the menu "create new"

And also I already changed the column type as date & time but it's happen to be an error (which i can't input more than 2 columns that consist dates data, It's only error when i add more than 2 columns with date & time type. e.g 3 columns date will result as error and can't import).

Hence, I tried to add the excel data with power automate hoping that all the dates columns can be treated as date & type. But I encountered this error. On the different question that i send I was suggested to make a new spreadsheet which I tried and still encountering error.
