Hi,

I purchased the Microsoft Office 2016 software through my employer, Los Angeles Unified School District for my home computer years ago (in 2016?). It came with Outlook (when open up the outlook, it show outlook 365), Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, OneNote, OneDrive, and OneDrive for Business.

I have recently retired from Los Angeles Unified school district, and about 2 weeks ago, I noticed the message show up when I opened the Outlook, Excel and word;

PRODUCT DEACTIIVATED On Sunday, January 30, 2022, most features on Outlook /Excel/Word will be disabled. REACTICATE

My desktop run on Window 8.1, and I would like to continue using the Office 2016 instead of the Office 2021 which is require Window 10 or higher. Please answer the following 3 questions for me;

  1. Is product key code still required to access the activation to install the office 2016?
  2. If it does require a product key code, how can I get the product key code?
  3. If I can not obtain a product key code, can I purchase it from Microsoft website?

Please advise,

Albert K.

    Hello your007

    Hi, I'm Karl and will be happy to help you today.

    HUP purchases for perpetual licenses only remain valid if the following conditions still exist

    #1 - You are still employed by the organization applicable to the HUP purchase

    #2 - The organization is still enrolled in the HUP program

    #3 - You still have access to the email address from that organization used to complete the purchase.

    Office '2016 can no longer be purchased from Microsoft. It went out of support on Oct/ 13, 2020. There are some 3rd party resellers claiming to sell licenses to old versions but would proceed with caution especially if the price is "too good to be true". The product key for those licenses may activate Office initially but you may find yourself rudely awakened to find that Office is suddenly deactivated and the key worthless. Your only recourse in that situation is with the vendor from whom you made the purchase.

    What you can get that will work on Win 8.1 is an Microsoft 365 Personal subscription. System requirements for various Office versions are described in
