Why isn't translator in Word working?

In MS Word, if I try to translate a selection of text, or a whole document, the translation never actually comes. All I get is a window where the translation should be, and a busy animation (an animated circle) endlessly.

    David,

64 bit installation is not the cause. You may try the following steps further:

    1. Right-click the network icon in the lower right corner of the desktop -- open the Network and Sharing Center -- change the adapter settings -- right-click the network connection -- select Properties -- click on the Internet protocol version 4 -- choose to use the following DNS address -- enter 4.2.2.1 in the Preferred DNS, and enter 4.2.2.2 in the alternate DNS -- click OK.
    2. Connect to Mobile Wifi and then confirm if the issue persists.

    Hi David Whittle (david),

Thanks for your post in Microsoft Community.

It sounds like you are encountering an issue with translator in Word. This may be caused by Internet. You could

    1. Press Windows + R > type: inetcpl.cpl >press Enter to open Internet options > Advanced > find the Security module > check Use SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, and TLS 1.1, TLS 1.2 > OK.
    2. Enter winword /safe after pressing and holding Windows+R to see the usage of Word in this mode. If it is normal, check the File > Options > Add-ins > uncheck all the checkboxes in the COM add-in list > click Apply > OK > restart Word to see the effect.
    3. With Word closed, navigate to C:\Users\xxx\AppData\roaming\Microsoft\Templates and find Normal.dotm(.dot) to rename it. The name is arbitrary but needs to be distinguished from the original Normal. After the Normal.dotm is automatically generated, reopen Word to see the effect.
    4. Which version of Office are you currently using? Please click File> Account and take a screenshot of the complete product information. (In order to protect your privacy, please pay attention to cover up your account information), please try to update the office to the latest version to see the usage.
    5. If you still cannot use the translation function after trying the above methods, you may need to obtain and install the translation-related plug-in Microsoft Translator to see the effect.

Feel free to post back if you need further assistance.

    Best Regards,

Just tried all these setting changes with my IT adviser and unfortunately it didn't work. He was able to get it doing on his machine, having followed the instructions. It works on his machine, but not mine. He has 32bit installation, I have 64. Might that make a difference?

    Best wishes,

    David

    Thanks so much Lynn,

    License information attached.

I have an IT adviser dialing in in half an hour and I'll ask him to help me with with - but he didn't previously know the solution, so this will absolutely help.

    Best wishes,

    David
