insert text box missing from insert tab

I am trying to insert a text box in Word online, but there is no 'insert text box' or 'draw text box' function when I go to the 'insert' tab. I'm not sure if I am using a lesser version of Office365, but I appear to have many missing functions. Is there any other way to draw a text box?

    Hi Doug,

    In my version of Word Online (the free version of OneDrive for home use), I was able to find a command which I believe translates to "Drawing." It opens an editing window where you can add a figure and/or text (which is of course different from the behavior of the drawing canvas in a full version of Word). See screen shot below.

    In the Word Online app go to the Insert tab, then click the Drawing tool. That will produce what Stefan referred to as a drawing canvas but in the online app the equivalent is called the Drawing (Preview) window (neither of which are used in the Mac product).

    Make sure you're on the Insert page of that window then click the Text Box tool & draw your Text Box. [Note: The Shape & the Text tabs of the Drawing window do not appear unless editing an existing Shape or Text Box.]

    I believe that Stefan is mistaken about the ability to insert a Drawing Canvas. AFAIK it is not possible in Word Online.

    As far as I can tell, all you can do in Word Online is to insert a drawing canvas and add text to it.
