I signed up for a free month of Microsoft 365 on my iPad, but it’s says it’s only for Excel. How can I add Word. Or do I cancel and start over.

If you have a 365 subscription, ie Personal or Family, you can use it to install on any type of device that Office is made for: Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android etc.

    .

As I understand it, even with a 365 subscription for iOS you have to download/install the applications individually

    .

If you don't already have a 365 subscription, ask around your family and friends to find out if anyone has an unused "share" on their 365 Family subscription. They are allowed to share with up to 5 other people. Or someone who has 365 Personal and is willing to cost share an upgrade to 365 Family.

Thank you for your help. Hope it would be okay if I ask you another question (you are so knowledgeable). I canceled the initial sign up that only gave me Excel. I then signed up for Microsoft365 for 1 for a year. When I purchased my previous iPad, I signed up with Microsoft to have word/excel on it. This has been probably 6 years ago. I have a number of documents in both word/excel and unsure if I can continue to access them. I don’t know how to find that out - I can get to them now. To further complicate it, I have 2 emails. The first is the account with the old documents. That email system is being phased out so I started a new email thru gmail.com. So I think I have logins for each (I know I do 365–I never had to login to the other). I already had excel/word on both iPads so I didn’t have to download those when I signed on for the year. I’ve logged in with the new password I had for the 365 (then I can’t see those other documents). Is there a way to find out if those will still be available to me? I’m very afraid of losing all those and not sure how to proceed. Or is there another way to find out It just keeps getting more complicated. Or advice on where I might be able to find any answers on this?

Thank you for the info. I now just need to go in and cancel the Excel trial membership and I will do the yearly full membership. Much easier. Thank you for your help.

    Hello CandyBecker

Hi, I'm Karl and will be happy to help you today.

First, in the interests of full disclosure, I have never signed up for anything related to Office from the Apple Store but what I do know is that is that only individual apps can be downloaded so am assuming everything else is tied to that.

On the other hand, if you start a trial using a Microsoft Account from

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/microsoft-365/try

It will apply to the entire Office suite without any question. When installing an Office app on iPad it would be the case of just opening an app after it's downloaded and installed from the Apple Store and logging into the MS Account used above to activate the app. (I do use Office on my iPad using this approach - I didn't use my Apple ID as the MS Account email address).

If you go through this process, be sure to log into the account used to start your Excel trial to turn off recurring billing so that you don't get automatically charged for it when the trial expires.
