I want to show the promoted result on the search result page.

Steps I followed:

  1. Go to site settings of the Search site
  2. Under Search, Open Query Rules
  3. Select a Result Source and Click on New Query Rule
  4. Enter Rule Name “Best Bet – Micromedex”
  5. In Query Conditions section, select “Query Matches Keyword Exactly”
  6. Add “mark;micro;micro medex;microdex;microm;micromed;micromede;micromedex;micromedics” these keywords.
  7. In Actions section, Add Promoted result with below details
    1. Title : blahblahagainblah
    2. URL : Any Url
    3. Description : Any Description
  8. Click on Save , Again Click on Save

The result I am getting is as below

When I search for “micromedex” keyword, below is the result on search result page

When I search for “microm” keyword, below is the result on search result page

Whereas , When I check in Query builder for keyword “Micromedex”, it is giving me SpecialTermResult (Which is best bet) and Relevent result as well

When I check in Query builder for keyword “microm”, it is giving me SpecialTermResult (Which is best bet) but no Relevent results.

So, My question is does “Promoted Result” displays only if there is any relevant result for the search term?

    Hi,

Thanks for posting back with the detailed query rule for the site level.

And from our tests again with the site level, it seems like we still failed to reproduce the same issue as the Promoted Result will display with any keywords.

Hence, as we exclude the possible influences for the site level or the tenant level, we'd like to suggest the following troubleshooting steps to narrow down the issue:

    1. Create a new query rule with some new keywords and see if a similar behavior will be reproduced.
    2. Create a new test site and check if a similar issue will happen again.
    3. May I confirm if the issue environment is only in SharePoint Online or it can happen also in the SharePoint Server environment?

    Best Regards,

    Mia

    Hi,

Thanks for your patience and kindly check the following details.

From our test with a created rule from your sharing, the Promoted Result(blahblahagainblah) displays no matter if there is any relevant result for the search term.

Hence, as it seems like the search results is having some issue on your side, kindly share us the following needed details for a further troubleshooting:

1.May I have the screenshot about the created rule(Best Bet – Micromedex) for a better check? Similar as the following one from SharePoint Admin Center>Search>Manage Query Rules>All Sources>select the Best Bet one and take the screenshot.

2.To narrow down the issue, please create a new rule with some new keywords and see if a similar behavior will be reproduced. This helps to see if the issue is related to the specific rule or the tenant background side.

3.As it seems like the search result page on our test side is bit different from yours, could you kindly double-confirm if the screenshots environment is from SharePoint Online or SharePoint Server currently?

    Best Regards,

    Mia
