Citations (Harvard) in Word: same author and same year

Hi, I need to use Harvard citations and have a bunch of articles from the same author and in the same year.

This is what they look like now:

(Davies, 2008; Davies, 2008; Ishihara, 2016)

I want it to look like this:

(Davies, 2008a; Davies, 2008b; Ishihara, 2016)

The only way I've been able to do that is by manually inserting the letters 'a' and 'b' after the year in the citation definition. This is a problem because if for some reason I change the order or add a paragraph earlier with another reference then the letters stop making sense. I've done some research and there is something called 'BibWord Extender' but I couldn't make it work. Any other ideas?

    Hello Ignacio Vernengo!

Welcome to Microsoft Office Community Forum. Thank you for sharing your concern with us today and we hope that all is well.

We understand that you are trying to use the Harvard citation on Word where you want the letters automatically generate beside the year if it has the author and year. Rest assured that we will do everything in our power to help you with your concerns.

I've tried replicating this on my end and I wasn't able to get the result that you wanted. I tried communicating with our internal team and we've found that this is something that is not possible on Word. You can only add the letters manually beside the publishing year but the letters will not automatically generate if it has the same author and the same year once citation is inserted.

With that being said, we highly recommend that you provide a feature request to our products team. We'd love to hear from you. Let us know what's working well, if there are problems with our products, or if you have ideas about new functionality that would improve your experience. Your feedback goes directly to our products teams and helps us shape the future of Office for users around the world. Please click on this link here for the guide on How do I give feedback on Microsoft Office?

    Hope it helps.

    Sincerely,

    ReynaldoB

    Thanks ReynaldoB,

I will definitely do that. I think it is a very simple fix and Word should have had this for years now.

    Cheers,

    Ignacio
