Saving as PDF adds an extra page to my document.

In my document's original form, there is a “page break” inserted at the end of the table of contents. The page break has to be there because it lets the program know to start the page numbering after that point, but in its doc form, the page break is just an invisible line that informs the program that there are two separate sections - one before the page numbering, and one after. The problem im having is that when i convert it to pdf, it adds a blank page where the page break is. The problem with that is that the book is formatted in a way that makes every new chapter start on the left page when you're holding the book open. When the extra page gets added, it changes it so that the new chapter starts on the right page instead of the left.I uploaded it to a pdf editor and deleted the page, but then it **** everything up in a different way. When youre creating a book, the margins on either side of the paper have to be different sizes, because one half of the page is going to have part of the margin taken up by the books binding, so the page on the left will always have a larger right margin, because part of that margin gets swallowed by the binding, and the page on the right will have a larger left margin. When that extra page got added, it turned all the left pages to right pages and right pages to left pages, and it changed their margins with them, so when i delete that page, the margins are still backwards. I need to figure out how to make it turn into a pdf without adding that extra page so that i can keep my margin settings intact

If you are using "Mirror margins," the Inside and Outside margins will be applied correctly. If you are starting numbering at 1 after the TOC, then Word is inserting a blank even page in order to force page 1 to be a recto (odd-numbered, right-hand) page. This is publishing convention. If you want chapters to begin on the left, you can do this, but they will have to be even-numbered pages.

Word's display in Print Layout view can be deceptive because, even if you display two pages, they won't be facing pages, so they will appear to have the gutter on the wrong side. If you view the document in Print Preview (especially if you use Print Preview Edit Mode, which uses the entire screen), you can see true facing pages and also the blank filler page that Word inserts.

    Hello Alex,

This forum is a user-to-user support forum. My name is Charles and I am a fellow user with decades of experience using Microsoft Word. I have written extensively on using Word and have authored help articles on the Microsoft site.

What you have is a Section break, not a page break. Work with a copy while trying my suggestions.

Delete that section break and then add an odd-page section break. That will start your text on an odd-numbered page and may insert a blank page before it if needed. With your insertion point in the new section, make sure to format your page numbers to start at 1.

Here is my reference page on Sections, Headers and Footers and Page Numbering. http://www.addbalance.com/usersguide/sections20...
