Error code 30175-45 (2147942405) installing Microsoft Office

I am attempting to install Microsoft Office on my home desktop running Windows 10 Home Edition after subscribing to Office 365 this morning but am running into the error code in the subject line. This is the first time I have attempted to install Office on this computer.

Things I have tried:

-reboot and reinstall - same error

-uninstall of previous Office version using the scrub tool (SetupProd_OffScrub.exe), reboot, and reinstall - same error

--disabled virus checker and reinstall - same error.

-there was the potential that an older hard drive in my system contained old windows/office installations might be contributing to the error, so I temporarily removed this drive from the system, rebooted, and attempted reinstall - same error.

-For reinstall attempts, I have used both the .exe setup file and the Support and Recovery Assistant with similar results (same error).

I have NOT tried creating a new user account and would prefer not to do that unless it's an absolute last resort.

Any advice on resolving this would be appreciated. Many thanks!

Hey Norman, I appreciate the follow-up. I ended up spending several hours in chat and on the phone with Microsoft Support yesterday troubleshooting this issue. The root cause wasn't tied to old Office installs, but an unknown issue with my Windows profile and/or the OS installation itself. After creating and testing a new user profile unsuccessfully, we ended up doing a complete OS refresh; this finally allowed me to install Office. It didn't work 100% correctly (i.e., no start menu shortcuts etc) but I was able to run the Office components directly from the Office16 folder and everything seems to work.

    Hi Jowabunga,

    Thanks for posting here.

I think we will need to manually check/clear Windows if there was a previous Office installed before -- although you've already tried a scrub tool, there are many different version tools (also most of them are deprecated) for different version of Office and this scrub tool might not be the right one for your Office, and also sometimes the cleaning/uninstalling might stop without give a warning if there is any error occurred.

Since I'm not sure which version of Office has been installed, I enclosed this guideline directly:

    Manually uninstall Office

I hope this reply could address your question, or if there is anything unclear in my post, please feel free to let me know.

Thanks again and wish you a nice day!

    Best regards
