At one time, OneNote 2016 was going to be the last downloadable version of OneNote, and Microsoft's continuing development efforts were going to be directed at OneNote for Windows 10.
Then Microsoft changed course and decided to maintain OneNote 2016 while continuing to develop OneNote for Windows 10.
Recently, Microsoft announced that Office 2021 would be downloadable (after previously saying that Office 2019 would be the last downloadable version of Office) and that it would include OneNote 2021. And now that Windows 11 has been released, Microsoft will presumably want to do something to OneNote for Windows 10.
I am lost.
I am subscribed to Microsoft 365, which was formerly known as Office 365. Currently, according to my Windows 10 Start menu, I have two versions of OneNote on my copy of Windows 10:
"OneNote" - which, before a recent update, was called OneNote 2016. It is Microsoft OneNote for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2110 Build 16.0.14527.20008)
-and-
"OneNote for Windows 10" - which is Version 16001.14326.20458.0
As a subscriber to Microsoft 365, I am supposed to always have the latest version of the OneNote app. So if "OneNote" is the latest version of the app, what is "OneNote for Windows 10"? Which of these two apps am I supposed to be using now?
