Edit excel file on android tablet without 365 subscription?

I have a Samsung Tab S6 Lite, I'm trying to edit a personal excel file on it ~ like I can on my previous Samsung tablet and phone but it it won't let me edit without paying for a 365 subscription. Is this wrong? Seems unfair when everyone is using preinstalled Microsoft Office as advertised for free on devices that aren't computers. My other devices work fine and this is very frustrating on my new device. (My file is password protected therefore for that reason, Google docs won't open it.)

    Thanks again.

I'm not sure that's for me as my tablet isn't online when on the go and I don't want to upload the file and its info to Microsoft. All I can say is it's very unfair of Microsoft to limit usage based on screen size! My tablet is 0.3 inches too big for what they deem to be the difference of paying them hundreds of £€$ a year to edit files!!! Beware everyone

    Hi Tom,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

The Microsoft android apps are free to use on screens up to 10.1" and your screen is 10.4", so, you would need to purchase a subscription to be able to use those apps.

However, if you uninstall the Office Apps, you can still use the free online versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint in a web browser on your tablet.

    Hi Tom,

Yes, that is correct, those free apps are online only, your files would need to be stored on OneDrive: https://onedrive.live.com/

That would allow you to edit your files on any device, including that tablet.

Thanks Dave I'll try it. Though being an online version, Website? Does that mean I'd have to be online to edit though? And also upload my file?
