Latest Office 365 changed ribbon and removed quick access settings?

A short time ago a 365 update removed my quick access buttons by supposedly moving them to the bottom of the ribbon. But in actuality it removed the buttons. Setting to show above the ribbon fixed the problem.

It seems that MS has broken it yet again with the latest update.

Now there is the giant and useless autosave, and save, but not the most important undo and redo. Which MS brilliantly added to the ribbon Home tab. Quick settings like undo are nice on every page and tab without taking up space.

In options, I could customize the ribbon to remove undo, but for the quick access, I could turn it on, but it seems it has been completely wiped out. All buttons are gone and I have to select all of them, and still cannot remove the giant autosave.

Then I have to do the same for every office application, sometimes more than once.

In word it kept my quick launch buttons, but that only messes things up further as it creates doubles, and still did not show by default.

With autosave and save being locked now and not editable or removable like before. And undo moved to ribbon.

Something else, has anybody noticed that the bar and ribbon has gotten quite a bit fatter with the release wasting much more space.

This is driving me nuts with MS changing the appearance and usability of core products on a regular basis without accounting for my customizations or settings. Is there a way to stop customization changes so I don't waste hours on fixing what should never break?

Hi Mchael E,

First, my pleasure to assist you.

As per your description, please don’t worry, we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation.

Based on my test result, yes, you are correct, before, by default, the undo and redo buttons were located in the Quick Access Toolbar. The Quick Access Toolbar was either above or below the ribbon,

But after you have updated your Office version to the new layout, the buttons are now on the left of the Home ribbon. **** See image below for your reference:

As a workaround, if you don’t mind (I request please don’t mind) you may put them back into the ribbon if you like, right-click on them and then on “Add to Quick Access Toolbar”.

Meanwhile, it seem  you don’t like new updated  look , in this scenario as we listen to all feedback and consider them for feature/future versions of our products, and we requested you send/provide feedback via our Microsoft Excel feedback portal. Your feedback helps us know which are most important to you.

I appreciate your understanding and stay safe!!

Best regards

Waqas Muhammad

Waqas, why does Microsoft insist on removing the ribbon menu and even just the standard File Menu bar from smaller programs. I just upgraded to Windows 11 and now find that the NORMAL, STANDARD menu is gone from File Explorer. No more ribbon bar. Why? The new menu is in no way better than the one they discarded. Couldn't they have at least offered the option to keep the normal menu? I don't understand their drive to change things. Change for the sake of change is not necessarily a good thing.
