Modern SharePoint Workflow

I have a modern SharePoint site with a doc library and I would like to add the 2013 approvals workflow to the library. When I go into the Workflow settings for the library it says there are none associated with it and there is no option to add, only remove, block, or restore. Does anybody know why I am not able to add this workflow.

    Dear SG523,

    Sorry for the late reply.

As you want to use the built-in approval workflow in your environment which is a SharePoint 2010 workflow and the SharePoint 2010 workflow has been retied, you may be unable to use it. If you want to create the SharePoint 2013 workflow, you may use SharePoint Designer to create it.

However, for modern SharePoint libraries in SharePoint Online, the SharePoint 2013 workflow is also being retired and replaced by Power Automate. So there may be usage and data loss issues when the SharePoint 2013 workflow retires in the future.

I strongly suggest you use Power Automate to create the approval workflow in the modern SharePoint libraries. If you need further help on the Power Automate flow, please post back with the detailed information about your requirement and I'll try our best to help you on the flow requirement.

For your reference: SharePoint 2010 workflow retirement

Thanks for your understanding and have a nice day!

    Waqas,

Thank you for the reply. Are you saying I have to have SharePoint designer to do this? I went to my modern SP site and went to Site Collection settings and activated Workflows.

I then went to the library and went to Workflow settings and get this.

On the videos I watched there was an "Add Workflow" right above the "Remove, ect" but I don't have that.

    Thanks,

    Hi SG523,

First, my pleasure to assist you.

As per your description, please don’t worry, we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation.

By default workflows associated with a content type based on the document content type. Make sure you add the workflow to your content type first.  If you don't add the workflow to your content type you get the  'There are no workflows associated with this list.

Here is article for your reference:
