Stop Visio from Jumping to Center of Text Box

I have some Visio drawings with large text boxes in the first couple of tabs. These text boxes have tabular data that we format with tabs and tab stops. The problem is any time I double-click on the text box Visio jumps to the center of the text box. When I try to adjust the tab stops Visio automatically jumps back down to the middle of the text box which pulls the tab stop off of the ruler causing it to be deleted. I've tried zooming out so I see the whole text box but Visio zooms back in when I double-click on the box and the ruler is not visible from the center of text box. I've also tried reducing the size of the text box and let the text flow over the bottom but I see the same behavior. I cannot edit the tabs on these text boxes.

My work-around has been to duplicate the text box, delete all but the top line, then use the format painter to apply the tabs to the original text box. The format painter applies the formatting of the first line to the whole text box so every time I adjust the tabs I have to re-format the text in the box. Embedding Excel is not an option.

How do I prevent Visio from jumping to the center of the text box every time I open it or adjust the tabs?

Windows 10 Enterprise version 21H2 / Visio Plan 2 MSO (16.0.13801.21148) 32-bit

Thanks

Unfortunately neither of the suggestions resolved the issue. After more experimentation I found that if I scroll back to the top of the text box after double-clicking on it and place the cursor somewhere in the top line it will permit me to move the tab stops for the full box. It doesn't help if there are different tab stops for different lines within the box, but this doesn't apply to my situation so my issue has been resolved.

Thank you

    Hello Chepp,

As I understand you want do disable the zooming on text box when you double click on it.

If my understanding is correct you may try the following suggestion:

    • Click the File tab, and then click Options.
    • Click the Advanced tab.
    • Under Editing options, in the Automatically zoom text when editing under box, enter 0 (zero) for the point size.

As another option you can change a double-click behavior for the shape. Select a text box and go to Developer tab, in the Shape Design group, click Behavior > Double-click.

Feel free to post back to us if you need further assistance.

    Best Regards,

    Igor
