A family of Microsoft presentation graphics products that offer tools for creating presentations and adding graphic effects like multimedia objects and special effects with text.
The problem with the default SmartArt hierarchy layouts is they're built for a one-person-at-the-top orientation, but family trees require something more like one-person-at-the-bottom.
Try this trick to make an inverse (or reverse) hierarchy, then see if it's easier to work with:
- Choose Insert>SmartArt>Hierarchy and select your preferred layout.
- Right-click on the SmartArt border and choose Format>Object.
- On the Format Object task pane, click on the Effects icon (A pentagon).
- Expand 3-D Rotation section, then check Keep text flat.
- Change Y Rotation from 0 to 180. The hierarchy flips upside down.
- Enter present day people at the bottom, ancestors toward the top.
