Visio create diagram from data not working

Good morning, I have a plan 2 subscription to Visio through work and I'm trying to import data from Excel to Visio using the provided "Process Map for Basic FlowChart" template and its failing with "Visio internal error: #-1 Action 2544: Create from data"
I've tried importing test series of data that all seem to work, but when I start using a larger series of data it's starting to fail. My table is only 400 rows but the row with the highest number of comma delimited connectors is around 70. Are there limitations on the complexity or the process/connector count? I can't find any specifications for Visio professional.

    Hi Tristan,

Based on your post, I tried creating the diagram in Visio with 400 rows in Excel and it did work, I could create the diagram without any error, here’s the screenshot for your reference.

So, I don’t think the issue on your end is related to the number of rows, there must a be different reason. I am guessing it has to do with the complexity of the data in Excel.

Please try repairing Visio app from Control Panel and then try again with the simple data:

    1. Click the Start button > Control Panel. From Category view, under Programs, select Uninstall a program.
    2. Click Visio from the list, and then click Change and select Online Repair.

Please try Online repair. Quick repair only detects and then replaces corrupted files, and an Online repair option will do a complete repair; it will take a few extra minutes to repair Office applications.

Besides, start Visio without Automation events and without Visual Basic for Applications. To do this, follow the steps below:

    1. Start Visio application.
    2. Click File>Options>Trust Center> Trust Center settings.
    3. Select Macro Settings, and then click Disable all macros without notification.
    4. Select Add-ins and then click to select the Disable all Application Add-ins check box.
    5. Click OK.
    6. Exit Visio, and then restart Visio, try creating diagram with simple data with around 400 rows.

    Regards,

    Neha

When starting the process from Visio and i follow through the prompts in the wizard nothing happens when i click ok, it just goes back to a blank workbook. If i proceed to try and import the data with the create from data wizard

    Image

It will give me this error

    Image

However if I reduce the row count to under 100 it will generate.

    Hi Tristan,

From your post, I suppose you are exporting data from Excel to Visio, as shown below, right?

May I suggest following the process from Visio instead. For this, follow the steps below:

    1. Open Visio or select File > New if you are editing a diagram.
    2. Select TEMPLATES.
    3. Select Flowchart.
    4. Select **Basic Flowchart - Data Visualizer (**A Data Visualizer template has an Excel icon in the top left corner).
    5. Click Create, it will show you a window to select the Excel workbook, click Browse to select the workbook and follow the prompt.

For reference, see Create a Data Visualizer diagram (microsoft.com)

Try this method, see if you still get the error. Let me know the status.

    Regards,

    Neha

Unfortunately, I can't share the data, but I am running into the same issue when I try and use a test table with over 100 rows even without any linking data.

    Welcome to the forum here.

If it is convenient, I'd like you to share the Excel data you are using for us to do a test in our environment. As the forum is public, please add your confirmation if the data can be shared directly. If yes, you can just share the data here.

If no, welcome to post back to let us know and we can send a private message to you for you to upload the data file.

Meanwhile, I'd like you to upload a full screenshot of the Account page in the Visio application you are using for our reference as well. You can access the page via clicking on File>Account.

Note: Remove any private information before uploading the screenshots.

Thanks for your effort and time.
