Hi,
I have just purchased a new Mac and synchronised my Onedrive with the finder. I can open the files through the finder but they appear as "saved on my mac" and not on my onedrive. This means that I can open autosaved documents through only onedrive online but not through the finder. And when I open them through the finder I cannot autosave any changes. What I want is that when I open any office file through the finder they appear as "saved on onedrive" and with autosave feature already (which is what I did with my previous windows laptop). Please help me if you know how to solve the problem. Thank you!

Q & A updated in Inside the new Files On-Demand Experience on macOS. And indicates that the autosave not working issue should only impact Apple Store version of the OneDrive app. Please help check whether you are in this scenario, and if so, follow the suggestions to unlink and uninstall the Store version of the OneDrive app, then reinstall the standalone version from this link.

Dear M,
Thanks for your updates here.
It seems that you encounter another new issues after you install the standalone version of the OneDrive for Mac sync client. The possible reason may be some cache and credential issues persisting in the previously installed sync client.
I suggest you remove the left sync folder after backing up the data in it, create a new sync folder, reset teh OneDrive for Mac sync client again and then sync the data with the newly created folder to see and let us know the result.
Thanks for your effort and time.
Cliff
Hello GiorgioSerafino,
Generally, when you sync the OneDrive to your Mac, it will show the OneDrive content in your Finder with the Files on Demand icons i.e., Online only, Locally available file, and Always keeps on this device. Reference: Save disk space with OneDrive Files On-Demand for Mac (microsoft.com)
So, when you synchronize, it will be Online only files, where opening the files will be downloaded to your Mac, and open the files in your Office apps will turn on the AutoSave button by default.
If the AutoSave is not turned on, the two possible reasons are, one is the OneDrive settings are not set properly or the features that are using the Office files are not supported in the Office for the web.
In this situation, can I know whether the AutoSave feature is turned off for every document or file in your OneDrive folders in the Finder?
Best Regards,
Chitrahaas
