I want to close a doc but it won't let me. It says: " you cannot close because a dialogue box is open. CLick ok, switch to Word then close dialogue box." I have no idea what this means. Help!

Unfortunately, in Windows 11, Microsoft has removed the Cascade options from the right-click menu on the taskbar. TaskBar Settings is the only remaining option.

    Hello Stephen

I'm Diane, an Office Apps & Services MVP specializing in Outlook, and I’m happy to help you today.

That means there is a dialog box open - probably behind the document. Sometimes you can see it using Alt+Tab. Or press Windows key + D to show the desktop then click on the Word icon to bring it up.

If after trying Diane's suggestion you still don't see the dialog box it could be moved off screen.

Right click on the Windows Taskbar and select "Cascade Windows".

This should stack all of the open windows, including the dialog box so that you can find the open dialog box.
