Project for the web - custom fields - power apps - reports

Dear All,

Does Microsoft plan to enable us to use CUSTOM FIELDS from Project for the web so we can use them in Power BI reports (as an example)?

Or otherwise

Can we see the custom created fields/ columns/ etc. via power apps data model in the Project for the web?

Or otherwise

Can you add CUSTOM FIELDS on project level (in Project for the web, example: assess risk of the overall project)? So that it can be used further in Power BI reporting?

Kind regards

Michał

    Hi M.i.c.h.a.ł

Thanks for your valuable feedback and sharing updates with us and I really appreciate your effort and your precious time doing. First, please accept my apologize (its my humbly request please don't mind) because you meet such an issue and I appreciate your kind words.

Unfortunately it is not possible to custom fields created in the Power Apps Dataverse UI in the Project for the web project.micorosoft.com UI. You can only surface these fields in the Power Apps apps (Model driven app etc.).

I appreciate your understanding and stay safe!!

    Best Regards

    Thank you.

    This clarifies everything.

Still, would be great to consider any of the points (as I am not the only one facing such challanges) for the future development both of PowerApps/ Project for the web.

    Kind regards

    M

    Hi Waqas,

thank you for a quick reply.

I did exactly as you propose. Here is the idea: https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback/idea/0e54eb80-31a5-ec11-a81c-002248519ffe

Yet, let me briefly comment on your response.

    1. Hope my questions illustrates that I have the basic knowledge how to add the custom fields. This is not an issue.
    2. Feedback - see the link above
    3. Thanks for the workaround - looks reasonable.
    4. My point didn't get an answer, if I may kindly ask for support here.

    "Or otherwise

Can we see the custom created fields/ columns/ etc. via power apps data model in the Project for the web?"

    What I mean:

    • user can add entities (tables) in the PowerApps environment,
    • user can use them as additional fields/ characteristics on project level,
    • you can create even risk management functionality,
    • or leverage on the Program/Project management solution developed by Microsoft.

Is it possible to see those additional entities (tables) and values in the P4W interface (for example I'd like to add one single field to "Project details" tab you get when you click on project name in the P4W interface?

    Hi M.i.c.h.a.ł,

First, my pleasure to assist you.

As per your description, please don’t worry, we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation.

Refer to this Microsoft article Create a custom field in Project for web  and create new fields via select the “Add column” button to see the “New field” option, to help you keep track of important information specific to your projects. However, but these fields are local to your projects and these fields cannot be include in PowerBI reports or in PowerApps built on Project for the web.

However, regarding to your concern, “enable us to use CUSTOM FIELDS from Project for the web so we can use them in Power BI reports” to improve the Microsoft project for web view and this type of change has come up, you brought a brilliant point. As we listen to all feedback and consider them for additional feature/future versions of our products, and we requested you send/provide feedback via Microsoft project feedback portal. Your feedback helps us know which features are most important to you.

We can expect this feature to be used in the future in Microsoft project for web.

Regarding to, “Can you add CUSTOM FIELDS on project level “if you want to use the same set of custom fields in your all projects, if you don’t mind (my request please don’t mind) as a workaround you can create a template project, and then copy it. All your fields and values will be copied over. Or please see information in this article: How can I add custom fields at the Project level?

I appreciate your understanding and stay safe!!

    Best regards

    Waqas Muhammad
