unable to open office documents

I have Windows 10 20H2 and Office 2019 installed.
On Tuesday night the latest patch, KB5011487, was installed on my computer.
Since the patch was installed, I'm unable to open office documents like xlsx, docx, and pptx.
Even older office files like xls, doc, ppt do not open.
The error I get is:

Word experienced an error trying to open the file. Try the following suggestions:
Check the file permissions for the document or drive.
Make sure there is sufficient free memory and disk space.
Open the file with the Text Recovery converter.
     (C:\Users...\my\_file.xlsx)

I did some searching online and found a couple of articles but my problem is not fixed.
Any help would be appreciated.
Best regards.
Dan

Are you able to start an Office program first, such as Word, and then open a file from within the program, via File > Open > Browse?

    Palcouk;
    Thank you for your response.
Here are the things I have done to try and fix the problem:

    1. The first thing I tried when I ran into this problem is reboot my PC and that did not work
    2. Tried your suggestion to repair Office
    3. Uninstalled Office and then reinstall Office
    4. Unintalled the new patch
    5. After uninstalling new patch, I retried 2 and 3

However I'm still unable to open Office files.
    Do you have other suggestions?
    Best regards.
    Dan

    Start off with a repair

Restart the PC, once fully loaded, repair Office,> Apps & Features>Select Office your version>Modify /Repair, once the repair completes re-test
