Deleting Documents Waiting

Hello,

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this. If not could you please send it where it is appropriate and let me know where? I have been using Word 2019 to create a long document and have been printing it in stages as I go along. My printer is an HP Laserjet P1102w. This recently was beginning to run out of toner so I bought a new cartridge at Best Buy and watched as a tech installed it. I checked it and it seemed to be seated properly. Today I tried to print a couple of pages of my document and set up the printer for current page one sided and hit print. The printer had been turned on and warmed up and I had seen the blue light indicating it was ready and the print page showed printed ready also. Unfortunately what happened was that the printer began spitting out pages and pages of blank paper, probably 20 or 30 of them before I could get the process stopped by turning off the machine. I tried twice more with the same result. I then noticed that on the select tab for the printer it said my printer had two documents waiting. This is not correct. My last session with the printer ended with my having printed my entire list of pages. I am thinking that the printer is somehow thinking I have documents previously selected but not printed (not true) and is now trying to print these first before accepting my new command. However, if true, why are the pages coming out blank? I would like to delete the two "documents waiting" but can find no command to do so. Can anyone help me? Thank you.

Alternate approach to clear the printer queue:

    • Win10 Start menu
    • Search for Printers
    • click on "Printers & Scanners" to display a settings dialog like this
    • Double click on your printer (ie mine is HP Universal)
    • Click on Open Queue button
    • You should see 2 entries in the window
    • Click on one to select it
    • Click on Document menu > Cancel command
    • repeat with other document

If this doesn't work, try Dave's command line approach

    Hi Wayne,

I am Dave, I will help you with this, try clearing the printer spooler in Windows.

    Close all open applications.

    Click Start.

    Type cmd

Right-click “Command Prompt” and select “Run as administrator“

Run the following commands and hit enter after each one:

    net stop spooler

    del %systemroot%\System32\spool\printers\* /Q

    net start spooler

The print queue on your Windows should now be cleared.

Type exit and hit Enter to close Command Prompt

Wayne, I have a HP LaserJet P1102w. You can stop the printing process immediately by pressing the X on the printer.

PS: You can cancel print jobs by clicking on the Windows 10 start>Devices and Printers>Click on the printer>At the top>See what is printing>Then on Printer to cancel or pause etc: (If you click on 'documents' you can cancel individual print jobs).

One easy thing to try is the printer's built-in test page.

    • Go to the same Printers & Scanners page that rhonski2 showed.
    • This time, click the Manage button. You'll get a page like this (but with your printer's name in the box):

    • Click the blue "Print a test page" link. A page will come out of the printer.
    • If that page is blank like the other attempts, the problem is most likely the cartridge or something connected to it, which the tech should fix.
    • But if the page has a list of printer properties and driver information, then the problem is more likely something in your computer's software configuration. In that case, click the "Run the troubleshooter" link and follow the instructions.

    Dear rohnski2,

Thanks so much for your quick reply and the detailed steps with the pictures. I decided to try your approach as it seemed to be a bit more straightforward for someone like me who is pretty computer illiterate. The first time I tried your method I got to the Open Queue button but when I clicked on it the window came up empty. Then I realized I was trying this after opening my email on my desktop, which is my usual habit, instead of checking my small laptop where the document resides. Once I looked there I found four documents listed which I was able to delete per your instructions. I then tried printing a page from the document and only one sheet of paper came out of the printer. Problem solved. Except this came out blank like all the others. Something to do with the cartridge I guess. So I'm off to Best Buy to visit the techs again, unless you have any suggestions. Thanks for your help.
