Change default font and font size - Word 365 for Mac

I am using Microsoft Office 365 on a Mac with MacOS 12.1. I want to have all new documents open with my choice of font and font size. I have tried saving a template, but I always get the default of Calibri 12 in new documents. The template is of form .dotx, and it is in User/Library/Application Support/Microsoft. What I am I doing wrong?

In the Font dialog box, choose the font and size that you want and then click the Default button.

    See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/change-the-default-font-in-word-2f50603b-9886-47e4-a483-48ac5ab80163#ID0EBDF=macOS.

The modifications will be saved to the Normal template.

I truly hate to reprimand in the public forum but in this case it is important for all who visit: This is one of the most irresponsible suggestions & should never be suggested. It is not how to update default settings in the Normal.dotm template nor is it the way to replace Normal.dotm under any circumstances. That template can be effectively created only by the program as explained in my reply o the OP.

Quite frankly, I am requesting that you Delete the reply.

D0 Not do as suggested by Alex Chen. That is not an effective way to create a new Normal.dotm template... Only Word can generate one when necessary. The Normal.dotm created by Word includes far more than a user template given the same name. Saving a document as Alex Chen described will cause issues because the new template will not include those necessary components.

I agree and modified the post to warn that it not be used. I may get into trouble for this and accept that risk.

Only Word can create a fully-functional Normal template.

It should never be overwritten by a different template. The Normal template created by Word can be modified fairly easily. Templates in Microsoft Word.

I don't see how you can get in trouble for this but it's even more unconscionable to think that anyone sporting any form of Microsoft credentials would even consider posting a suggestion to do what is universally known to be dead wrong.
