Im using windows 11, I have two keyboard layouts set up and am using an american keyboard layout. I would like my word language to be in English UK due to the spelling differences. However as my keyboard setting on windows are set as american layout the language in word keeps changing to American english.

I have tried changing the language in Word however it always changes back, if i switch my language to Eng UK it auto switches to UK. I have to have it set as american as i have an american style keyboard.

Maybe you can do it so it doesnt auto detect keybaord layout. and yes i have unticked auto detect language and then set english UK as my default. It still changes.

    Hello,

This forum is a user-to-user support forum. My name is Charles and I am a fellow user with decades of experience using Microsoft Word. I have written extensively on using Word and have authored help articles on the Microsoft site.

Here is my article on this subject:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/fo...

And, yes, it takes an article because it is not simple.

The key is that Word starts with the language setting in Windows. You can set English UK in your styles. That will still require that when you create a new document, you will need to apply the styles with the language setting to your first paragraph.

The article shows how to use a macro to actually add an English-UK setting to all of the styles in your Normal template as well as in a document. So long as you persist in having a different language setting in Windows.

Make sure that you have the language displayed in your Status Bar.

Please don't shoot the messenger! I am a fellow user trying to help you use the Office that is rather than the one that should be. If you assign a rating to my response, please rate my response, rather than how you feel about the program!

The people who can make changes to Word seldom, if ever, read anything that is posted in this help forum. This Community is just a user to user support forum; however, you can provide feedback to the Office developers by going to File - Account and click the Frown Face at the top right. Or you can reach it under help or use the Feedback Hub. https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback/f... The more people that report this, the more likely the developers are to fix it. If you post in the Feedback Hub, please put a link to that back in this thread so that others can vote for your suggestion.

If you do, you can include a link to this thread to further explain the problem.

    I hope this information helps.

Please let me know if you have any more questions or require further help.

    Stay well

Have you reviewed Proofing Language Keeps Changing - Solutions - How can I keep my proofing language from changing?

If so, I suggest posting a separate question because it is unlikely your problem is the same as Frazer's.
