Microsoft apps using large storage space.

Dear all,

I'm using Office 365 (Outlook, Onedrive, Onenote, Office suite) on Android phone and tablet (Poco and Samsung, respectively).

In both cases the apps are using an unreasonable storage space, up to 5 gigs per app.

I'd appreciate if you could advice on how to decrease the storage space in use by these apps. The cache size is minimal.

Thank you.

    Hi,

The apps sizes are166 MB (OneDrive), 284 MB (One Note), 212 MB (Office) and 322 MB (Edge).

The app data are 3.77 GB, 1.87 GB, 705 MB and 699 MB, respectively.

I can't find an option to prevent the data from being stored locally. I understand that this is a useful option if you're offline, but I'm mostly online and these apps require a lot of storage space.

    Thank you.

    Best,

Usually local copies of data is what uses up a lot of space. Like if you kept a copy of all your emails it might take up a lot of space in Outlook. Gmail normally caches a small amount, but the bulk of your data is kept on their servers.

I know on desktop I can tell Google Drive to download everything (mirror) or stream things as needed. It could be OneDrive was setup to keep a lot of offline data that you don't need or want.

I found a claim that each app might take up to 400MB after install. https://www.gizchina.com/2020/02/18/the-new-microsoft-office-for-android-is-here-word-excel-and-powerpoint-in-a-single-app/

If your comment is that these applications have together used 5GB, then that might be normal. You'd want to pick and choose what is installed. And probably get an external SDcard, if the devices support one, to hold more stuff.

    Hi,

    Thank you for the reply.

I have the Office hub installed. OneDrive, OneNote and Outlook were installed separately, if I'm not mistaken.

All are associated to my MS account.

    Thank you.

You did install the individual components from the Play Store, eg Outlook, OneDrive etc associated with the MS Account?
