Does the Attack Simulation require a license or trial?

I have used the Attack Simulation in Feb, March, April with limited capabilities and without a license or trial and it worked for what I needed. Now when I run a simulation it does not go out to the users. Is there suppose to be something in place that will notify me ahead of time that I will not be able to simulate? It will allow me to go though the entire process and even say that the simulation is in progress without any warning that this will not work. In short will the simulation go through without a license or trial with limited capabilities? If so then I will know maybe it is something on my end I may need to look into. Currently most users in our Tenant have 365 standard which does not include this full capability.

You are invited to start your assessment at multiple Defender for Office 365 resources on the Microsoft 365 Defender portal, although the centralized location to start your assessment is on the Assessments page at https://security.microsoft.com/atpEvaluation. You may have started the assessment without realizing it, but from the link above you can try to register for the assessment if the system accepting your application means that your assessment has not actually been processed.

Thank you for the information. Yes that is what I thought just wanted some clarification on this because I was using the simulation without starting a trial or anything and it says that the trial is still available, as well as the ability to setup and deploy the simulation without any warning that I will not be able to because the trial ended or because I did not have the correct licensing.

    Hi, EvanMH.

Attack simulation requires a Microsoft Defender for Office 365 Plan 2 license. Microsoft offers a 90-day free trial of Defender on the review portal. From what I understand you used this evaluation from February to April and now the evaluation has expired and that's why you can't simulate it anymore. After the trial period you need to purchase the license to continue using this feature.
