    Hi Charles,

Never too old to learn. The one I most recently came across was the SHIFT+Right click>Copy as path in the File Explorer to copy the full filename of the selected File or Files so that you can paste into a list\Excel, etc.

I see that facility has been brought to the surface in Windows 11 as there is is on the simple Right Click menu.

    Tables Figures Test.docx

I cannot actually download this to my desktop application.

Why a sample file is important for troubleshooting. How to do it.

    Charles,

    If you click on File

you can then click on Download a Copy to download a copy of the file

A Table of Figures / Tables in Word actually uses a version of the TOC field.

Insert a Table of Figures by Charles Kenyon

Unlike the TOC which has multiple styles, the Table of Figures only has the TOF style which applies to all tables.

Like the TOC, entries can reflect some direct formatting. See Suzanne Barnhill's TOC Tips and Tricks part about direct formatting. That is what Stefan has been talking about. Here is my writing on this: TOC and Direct Formatting

Otherwise, you could use TC Fields and a custom TOC for these to have a bit more control. This would be difficult and is easy to mess up because the TC Fields are hidden.

As Stefan said, there is no simple, (or, Automatic) way to reformat part of the Table of Figures.

However WHEN THERE ARE NO MORE ENTRIES TO BE ADDED, you can then use Alt+the Left Mouse Key to select blocks of the Figure Numbers and apply Italic formatting to them

Thereafter, when updating the Table, make sure to only update the page numbers as otherwise the italic formatting will be lost

You can apply italics to the figure label and number in the main body of the document. This modification will be reflected in the table of figures. Does that help?

Note that there is no simple way to re-format part of the table of figures while leaving the actual figures in the document unmodified.
