excel drawing charts with large data sets is very slow

It appears to be from the chart design trying to show a better representation. Excel appears to be updating this then the whole screen goes blank, depending on data size it can take many seconds to minutes to resolve itself.

How can we disable this feature...

I found if I disable "chart design" in the customize ribbon, (select "all tabs" in the drop down under the customize ribbon) then go down to CHART tools and disable Design (click the checkbox to remove tick)

Now charts load and display quickly as expected.

However disabling chart design also removes the other useful things on chart design ribbon (you cannot remove individual items in chart design) . So make a custom tab (new tab) with whatever commands you need ie Add chart element, Move chart etc.

    Hi

My name is André. I am an independent consultant.

    Try this

In Excel, go to File - Options

    On the left, click Advanced

On the right, scroll down to the Display section

Turn on the option to 'Disable Hardware graphics acceleration'

Save that setting and restart Excel

Answer here so I can continue helping you.

    André.

You could remove every other row (from a copy of your data) and use that as the chart source. I doubt you will be able to tell the difference in the chart presentation.

    [EDIT- added]

Sort the data by the Index column...

Have you tried to repair your excel?

4-Select "Microsoft Office" (or "Microsoft Excel" if you do not have the full Office installation).

    5-Click "Modify".
