Bypassing Accessibility Checker in Excel

I have a user with an Excel spreadsheet; a workbook with over a thousand embedded images on 30 different worksheets, none of which have any Alternate Text associated. The sheet runs extremely slow as the Accessibility Checker is looking at all those images as the users scrolls and switches views in the course of his daily work. Is there a way to bypass the checker or make all the images decorative in a single action?

This checkbox is already unchecked and it did not solve the issue.

    Hey Kevin,

Sorry to learn that your user is running into this issue. I had a couple of follow-ups to better understand root cause of the slowness:

    • Could you please tell me what version of Excel your user is on (details on finding it here)? Accessibility Checker has been released with Excel to Current Channel nearly a year ago, since then we have not heard it to still be working when "...checkbox is already unchecked...", hence asking.
    • Also, could please tell me how you determined root cause as "…Accessibility Checker is looking at all those images as the users scrolls and switches views…"? Accessibility Checker stops checking once is finds the first issue, hence asking.
    • Finally, could you consider sharing the workbook and repro steps, so that we can reproduce the issue in-house?

    Thanx,

    Prash (MSFT)

I understand how to make an imbedded image DECORATIVE. There are thousands of images on this sheet. This example you offered is for just one image on the sheet:

    Dear Kevin Bowser1

Good day! Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

Based on your description, we understand you want to disable the Accessibility Checkeror make all the images decorative in Excel.

If this is your scenario, and you want to make all the images decorative in a single action, in this cases, choose the drop-down menu and mark as decorative to check .

Besides, for the missing Alt Text error message, did you try to the steps mentioned to check if you can fix it? If not, please try to do this and check the result.

Meanwhile, if we uncheck the box Keep accessibility checker running while I work and then restart the Excel , it can work on our end. To help us narrown down this situation, please tell us your Excel product information so that we can have a further investigation, go to File>Account then share the screenshot to us.

We’re looking forward to your reply and will continue to help you all the time!  If there are any misunderstanding or unclear, you can post back in your free time.

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated. I hope that you are keeping safe and well!

    Sincerely,
