endnote usage in word while using the web version of microsft 365

Per the description shared, I would like to summarize your requirment i.e., you are using the Word for the web and want to insert Endnotes into the Word document.

If my understanding of your requirement is correct, first, I would like to convey there are some feature differences between Word for the web and Word desktop application, where Word for the web is limited with the features and Word desktop application has full set of features. Though you can insert the Endnotes in the Word document via Word for the web (References tab> Insert Endnote), you can view the Endnote in the Viewing mode only.

So, I would like to suggest you get the Office apps license by contacting the IT admin of your Office 365 School organization and install the Office apps to use the full set of Word app features.

In addition, I would suggest you to add your valuable idea in the Word · Community (microsoft.com) which is the best place to improve the Microsoft products.
