Tried MANY times. My paragraph is 3x3 inches. The box that word generates has correct 3 inch height, but is 8 inches wide.

As Suzanne suggested, you can use a paragraph border and set a right indent, if you want the border to be narrower than the page margins.

Alternatively, you can use a single-cell table with borders. If required, you can change the Text Wrapping for the table to "Around."

You probably turned on borders on the paragraph. That could be made to work too by changing the paragraph margins using "indentation" rather than margins, because I assume you want the rest of the page to look "normal".

    .

Text box, as Mia suggested is the "default" way to go.

    .

You could also use the Insert Shapes. Type inside the shape and size the shape

    .

    It can look like this

    .

Of course you can format the blue box any color, with a border line around it.

You could also use a 1 row x 1 column table.

You can add a border to any paragraph, but if you want the paragraph to be a certain width that is narrower than the margin width, you will need to add left and/or right indents to the paragraph.

    Hello Fredic,

Per the description shared, I would like to know whether you can try to insert the box first and set the Width & Height for the Box, and then enter the 3x3 inches text into the box.

To insert the box and set the size:

Open the Document> Insert tab> Text box> Draw a text box> Shape Format> At the Size, set the size as per the requirement> Enter the Paragraph into the box.

Does your requirement look like the below?

    Image

If my understanding is not correct, we're sorry and request you share sample screenshots of your requirement for a better understanding of your situation and guide you further.

    Appreciate your understanding!!

    Best Regards,

    Mia

Thanks, Mia. I want to generate a lot of different size paragraphs, with the box added last to just surround the words. It's for running ads in the local paper for my business. Words first, box last.
