    Hi KristofferSchiemann,

Thank you for posting back in Microsoft Community.

As you have tried all the requirements for using @ mentions comments that we suggested in the above replies, and still no success, I’d like to give more suggestions so that we can solve this issue!

In our last reply, we requested you to provide a screenshot of account page from File>Account. Like this one below:

With this kind of information, we can easily understand Office version and the Corresponding update channel for easy troubleshooting.

According to Update history for Microsoft 365 Apps (listed by date), you can check the information of your Office version that is related to your Update Channel.

For example: For people who are on Current Channel, the latest version of Office release is Version 2205 Build 15225.20204, like mine in the above screenshot.

So, if you are on Current Channel, and you don’t have this Office version, please update your Office to the latest version and see if it fixes the issue. Open Word > click File>Accounts>Update Options>Update now this

Besides, one of the Community members said that he was able to overcome this issue by setting “Comments and Formatting” in track Changes feature. Under Review, Tracking>Comments and formatting. You may check this this thread to see if it helps.

Thanks for your understanding, and please keep us posted about the results.

    Sincerely,

    Edwine| Microsoft Community Moderator

Does the user have the most recent updates for Office? Is "Enable modern comments" selected at File > Options > General?

    Dear  KristofferSchiemann,

We appreciate the effort that you put in troubleshooting this issue, and we are sorry for the inconveniences caused!

Based on your description, I can understand that your friend has issues with Word comments with @ mentions not displaying name suggestions.

I tested on Word for desktop Current Channel 2204 (Build 15128.20224) and Word for Web Microsoft 356 A5 for Faculty, but I cannot reproduce the same issue using a document stored in SharePoint Document library. Under review tab, I can click on Comments box, type @ and name suggestions appear, assign a document to someone in our Organization, when that person replies, I receive all the comments and the changes in a document.

For this feature to work in desktop Office Apps for Windows and Mac, you'll need to be signed in to Outlook on your PC. Please check Use @mention in comments to tag someone for feedback for more information about comments with @mentions.

In case the issue persists, please provide below information for further troubleshooting:

    1. What version of Office are you running? Open any Office App such as Word, go to File, Account>About Word.
    2. Are you logged into your Outlook for desktop? If not, please do and check the result.
    3. Have you tried to use @ mentions feature using Word for web? if yes, what is the result?
    4. Does the issue happen when you try to use @ mention comments in other apps such as Excel?
    5. Does this happen to only one document?
    6. Do other users have the same problem?

Thank you for understanding that the initial advice may not help to resolve the issue, but together we can bring it to a conclusion. Therefore, if the issue persists, please feel free to post back for further troubleshooting.

    Best Regards, Edwine

    Hi KristofferSchiemann,

Thank you for posting back in Microsoft Community.

Based on your Office version that you shared (Version is: 2205 Build 16.0.15225.20028 32bit), I understand this is the MSO version of Office that appears when we click About Word button, it is difficult to understand the exact version from this since this version is not mentioned in any support article, perhaps could you please provide us with the screenshot of File>Account (refer the screenshot below) from any Office app?

To be able to use @mention in comments, you need to have a subscription-based Office version (Microsoft 365) Installed on your computer and this feature is available for Enterprise customers, for information see this link.

Another thing, @mentions does not work with guest or external accounts (you cannot @mention such accounts nor can such accounts @mention in files outside of their tenant).

Besides, as you confirmed the other users in your organization do not have this issue, please compare the Office and OS version of the affected user with one of the other users for whom @mention is working in Word.

Thank you for your understanding, and feel free to post back for more help in case the issue persists.

    Sincerely,

    Edwine | Microsoft Community Moderator
