Word docs saved as WordPerfect

I have both Word and WordPerfect on my computer. I have used WordPerfect forever, but recently got Word for a special project. When I save a Word doc to my computer it saves as a WP doc. I have to click Open With when I want to open my Word doc. When I want to attach my Word file to an email, it attaches as WP and changes my formatting. How can I get Word to save Word docs in Word, rather than WP.?

If necessary, you can explicitly set Word (winword.exe) as the default for *.docx and *.dotx files in Windows Settings. (This is generally a more convoluted process in recent versions of Windows than it used to be in older versions.)

The symptoms you describe only mean that WordPerfect is the default for Word documents in Windows. A quick repair of Office should fix the file associations.

I wish I could say that solved the problem, but my Word docs still save as WP. I followed the instructions and restarted my computer, but no luck ...
