Paragraph Options Greyed Out

The paragraph spacing options are greyed out for some *.docx files but not for others.

  • the problem files are not protected or read only.
  • my subscription is up to date

THIS IS MADDENING ... as I am sure you can image ;-)

Well I finally figured it out myself. Thanks a lot Microsoft.

In the file:

  • REVIEW tab > Protect > Restrict Editing
    • at the bottom CLICK [ Stop Protection ]

Don't know how that dot turned on.

Solution well hidden.

    Thanks for the follow-up. Glad you got it sorted.

    Note that when document protection (editing restrictions) is enabled, you won't be able to change font properties either. In fact, many settings are unavailable in a protected document, such as spellchecking (depending on the type of protection).

    Hello Art,

    These controls, like many in Word, are only active when they could be used.

    Could you perhaps share a sample file with the problem with something indicating where your insertion point is in the document when you cannot access these controls?
