Cursor jumping in Word on iPad?

Hello everyone, I've been experiencing a strange issue the past couple weeks. In random documents on different iPads in Word, when I tap in a spot the cursor will end up maybe 10 to 15 lines above where I tapped. I have no peripherals attached, no Bluetooth mouse or anything. I've tried power cycling the iPad, resetting Word, uninstalling and reinstalling the app and I'm not sure what else I can do. It seems to happen in random documents on multiple iPads. I attached a screen cap below, you can see I tap in the fields near the bottom and the cursor jumps to the fields above.

Screen cap of the behavior

I've tested this on an iPad Pro 11". iOS version 15.4.1. Word Version 2.61(20050401) and an iPad Air (3rd gen) and Word Word Version 2.61(20050401)

Thanks Igor. If it makes a difference this seems to be a more recent problem. It didn't seem to happen before the latest update to the Word app on the iPad.

I’m having the exact same problem and it’s driving me nuts. Everything is up to date but the cursor is erratic in tables. This is the same for doc.x files crates both on the iPad and on desktop. There is definitely an issue and Word is becoming unusable.

I have noticed that if you pinch in and out of the table making it bigger and smaller on the iPad then it will start to work again at some point.

I’ve also noticed that if you highlight the table then often the bottom rows will be unhighlighted

I am experiencing the same problem and it is quite annoying. I do agree that it must have started with the last update. The problem does not happen when I work with the same document in Word for Mac or Word for iPhone. It must only be a problem in Word for the iPad.

I have the same issue and it is making typing in word impossible! I use tables for most of my documents.

It appears as though the second page/lower half of page is where it has the most issues. I can only get to a lower box in a table by clicking the cursor in a higher box and holding the space bar down and scroll down bit by bit.

When I click on a lower section of text in a table it doesn’t recognise it/highlight it at all so I can’t edit font or highlight or manipulate the text at all.

I desperately need a fix as I just can’t work on my iPad right now.

    Hello Thomas,

Thank you for posting to Office community and for the detailed description.

We have tested this behavior, but we can’t reproduce the issue. To narrow down the source of this behavior, we kindly ask you to provide some additional information:

    • Do you encounter the similar symptoms with cursor in any other applications?
    • Based on the video this issue happened when you tried to edit a table in Word. May I know if the same happens when you work with text?
    • Was this document created with Word on iOS device or any other version?

This information will help us to understand what causes this issue and recreate more accurate tests.

Meanwhile, as a workaround we may suggest you move a cursor with a long press space bar in a virtual keyboard on your iPad.

    Best Regards,

    Igor
