Increasing the spaces between words in a Word document.

I want to type song lyrics in a Word document and insert guitar chord notations in appropriate places in the text. (I have a stamp to do that .) In order to have the chord diagrams fit into the right places in the lyrics I need to have the space bar make longer spaces between words in the lyrics without having to double/triple/quadruple tap the space bar to do this. Is there a way to lengthen the spaces between words only...not letters. (I know there is a way to do that.)

Thanks

When text is justified in Word, it will vary the space between words, but this is an automatic process that you can't control. But you can insert wider space characters using Unicode fonts. To insert an Em space, press the Numlock key on your keyboard. Then, on the numeric keyboard, type 2003. Finally, press Alt + X on the keyboard. 2003 is converted to an Em space, which is 4 or 5 times wider than a regular space character.

You could create an Em space, then save it as AutoText or a Building Block. Then you can assign a custom keyboard shortcut to it to make it quick to enter in a score.

Here is Microsoft's page on inserting Unicode characters from the keyboard. And here is a Wikipedia page showing the variety of white space characters you can insert.

    Hello Barbara W,

There is no way to do that, that I can find, but how I achieve that is by using find and replace.

I highlight the text, open find and replace, then hit a space bar in find and replace it with double or triple space.

This is after you are done typing.

Here is a video on that https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Smnkfxe4MT8

You can apply custom keyboard shortcuts to Unicode characters. I have Alt+Ctrl+M assigned to the Em Space. Do this through the Symbol dialog:
