If possible, please let me know a little about division and multiplication symbols -- such as how to access them in Word 2010.

The divisions symbol÷ can be inserted by selecting it from the Insert>Symbol>More Symbols dialog,
or by holding down the ALT key and typing 247 on the numeric keypad.
For the multiplication symbol use the x key.
No, in serif fonts the x will not look right. For multiplication, use Alt+0215 or 00D7, Alt+X, which will give you the sign shown next to the division symbol on the "Recently used symbols" in Doug's screen shot.

In the word document, click on insert and you will see Equation and Symbol at the far right.
