OneNote author name is shown as the first letter of company user ID instead of name initials

Hello,

I'm using OneNote from Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise with my work account. But now for my new edits on my PC, the author name is shown as the first letter of my company user ID (observed from others' PC), instead of the name initials. This happened after one day my account was logged out due to internet issue. But I can see the author name is normal when I login to OneNote2016 from another virtual desktop. It looks like on my PC, OneNote cannot convert my company user ID to my name initials.

I have tried re-login but it doesn't work. How can I resolve this problem?

Thank you for the help in advance.

Hi,

Thanks for posting back.

Kindly follow the official article to clean the credential cache, see: Reset Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise activation state - Office | Microsoft Docs.

Meanwhile, if the issue persists, create a new local environment to perform a clean system environment, so we can further test the issue behavior in there and exclude any possible influences from account cache or local programs. See: Create a local user or administrator account in Windows (microsoft.com)

Feel free to back with us if you need further support.

Best Regards,

Mia

    Thanks for your support! :)

I referred to your article and removed the wrong Windows Credential and then problem resolved. Seems like a local Windows Credential was remembered and used by OneNote instead of using the right credential.

    hi,

It seems normal from your case. Actually the problem only occurs on my own PC. If I login OneNote from another PC, the author name is shown as normal. I tried re-install OneNote but still the author name cannot be shown correctly. Seems like on my PC, the login is now treated as another user hence showing different author names. I guess if I re-install Operating System the problem can be solved.

Is there any "cache files" that remembers my previous login and how can I remove that? Thank you.

    Hello,

Thanks for querying in this forum.

According to your description, it seems like the author name of your edits in OneNote is shown as the first letter of company user ID instead of name initials. Very sorry for the inconvenience.

We did a test in OneNote app from Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise.

Our test account organization ID is Alex Wilber, and the author name of our edits is AW.

We tested in OneNote from Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise on different devices and we still got the same result.

Given this situation, since we can reproduce the behavior and we cannot find any settings in OneNote to change it, we would recommend you report this situation from File>Feedback, or Help tab > Feedback within OneNote. Feedback submit by this way directly goes to the related team, this is the best way to let the developers know your requirements and comments and help improve the product.

In addition, if our understanding of the scenario is not consistent with yours, feel free to point it out.

Thanks for your patience and understanding. We hope you are keeping safe and well!

    Best Regards,

    Tina
