Hello,

Ive got word file with many links to other files in word, excel and pdf (acrobat reader).

When I press the word or excel links, it opens each file on the specific app with out any problem.

However when I try to press the pdf file it shows error - The server application, source file, or item cannot be found. Make sure the application is properly installed, and that it has not been deleted, moved, renamed, or blocked by policy.

What can I do? and how can I fix this issue?

Thanks

The error message means exactly what it says :-)

Most likely the item in question was embedded on a PC & displayed as an Icon. Embedded documents other than Word, Excel & PowerPoint files are not supported on a Mac.

Your best bet is to have the creator send you the PDFs separately.

    Hi Matan E,

I'm Sneha and I'd be happy to help you out with your question.

As you've mentioned "You have another computer with windows on it and it works well there" it is because Those PDFs would have been embedded on a Windows machine using OLE, a Windows-only technology. On a Mac, OLE exists only in Excel Word and PowerPoint. It doesn't include handling of any other file type, including PDF.

I hope this information helps. If you have any questions, please let me know and be glad to assist you further.

    Thanks for your answer Bob

Is it only supported by Windows and not by Mac OS X?

There are too many PDF files in the document and I am looking for an easier solution than sending each one by itself.

Would there be an update or another solution that would allow me to open those files like they do on Windows?

    I'm curious...

Why do you "...presume Windows 11" when the OP posted the message in the Mac Word Community & clearly indicated Word mac os in the Subject field?
