Remove and block Yammer for all users

Hello

I was just reading a thread from 2015 requesting a method by which an administrator can disable Yammer for all users. I was hoping there has been some updates since then. Our Organisation has hundreds of employees, and the top level management wants to disable all access to Yammer for everyone. Is there a way to do this now?

Thanking you in advance for your assistance.

    Dear M365,

    Thanks for your updates.

Please first check whether you are the Yammer network administrator. If yes, check whether you have checked Enforce Office 365 identity and Block Office 365 users without Yammer licenses.

If yes, after you remove the Yammer license from one user in the Microsoft 365 admin center UI or remove the Yammer licenses from all users in bulk by Power Shell, the users should be unable to access Yammer. When they go to Yammer by URL, they will encounter the following message.

I suggest you go to the Microsoft 365 admin center and remove a Yammer license for a user and then do a test to see the outcome in your enviroment. If it works fine, I suggest you run the script in the article to see and let us know the result as well.

So about "You can't assign licenses that contain these conflicting services: Exchange Online (Plan 2), Exchange Online (Plan 1). Review the services included with each license, and try again." , what did you do before encountering the issue?

Thanks for your effort and time.

    Cliff

    Hi,

I believe you can use the Azure Conditional Access policies to prevent the users from accessing the Yammer service.

But, we can achieve it by removing license as well: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/yammer/manage-yammer-users/turn-off-user-access

    Hi James,

Thank you for your advice. We have nearly 600 licensed users, so removing the licenses for each one is not practical for us. Even so, we did attempt it only to trigger this error message:

"You can't assign licenses that contain these conflicting services: Exchange Online (Plan 2), Exchange Online (Plan 1). Review the services included with each license, and try again."

We also tried using PowerShell to block the whole tenant, but that threw another error message.
Next, we will try the Azure Conditional Access policies you suggested with our gratitude.

    Kindest regards to you!
