Within the last week, when we access an excel template and click the "Enable Editing" button, Excel is opening a new, blank workbook instead of opening the target template for editing. Thoughts?

Appreciate any insight!

    Hi Amber,

Thank you for the detailed reply.

You mentioned that "The Template is stored/accessed via Sharepoint". I tested it on my side and the same problem occurred. Recently, we also found that other users had a similar problem as well. However, we have not received any reports about this behavior.

Because we can reproduce the same problem as you. Given this situation, we understand the inconvenience this problem has caused you and apologize for it. On the one hand, this problem may need to be checked from the background. Therefore, the best way to solve the problem is to report the problem to the team. We recommend that you contact the administrator in your organization and open the support ticket in the Office 365 admin center through the steps in this articlefor further assistance. The support team there has the right escalation channel for this case. This is also the most effective way to deal with such problems.

On the other hand, this problem may occur in the updated version of Excel. In this case, we suggest that you can click feedback in the Excel application to directly report this problem to the relevant Excel teams, which can quickly make the comments attract the attention of developers. You can open Excel and click File>Feedback>click I have a suggestion and write this query to feedback it to the Excel team.

At the same time, we will also give feedback on our side. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

    Best regards,

    Jazlyn

I am having the same issue, however a small work-around is to copy the templates to a personal OneDrive, and then open them through the OneDrive directory. I hope this helps someone else.

    Hi Amber,

Thank you for posting your query in our community.

Per your description, when you click "enable editing" for an Excel template, it will open a new workbook.

To help you better, could you please provide more information for me?

    1. Where is the template file stored?
    2. Do your colleagues have the same problem?
    3. Does the problem happen on all the files?
    4. Did you update Office before the problem happen?
    5. Please provide a screenshot of your Office Product Information(open Excel>File>Account>capture a screenshot of the Product Information column)

    Appreciate your cooperation in advance.

    Best regards,

    Jazlyn
