I am trying to onboard a device to MS 365 defender via the Settings -> Endpoints tab as stated in MSDN, but the tab is not showing up for me. It shows up for other people ive talked to. Is there something I need to do to enable it? I have been trying to get it appear for hours, please help.

I believe your Dev Subscription do not contain Microsoft Defender for Endpoint P2

As per MS these applies to below plans

    • Microsoft Defender for Endpoint Plan 2
    • Microsoft 365 Defender

    Reference :
    https://docs.microsoft.com/microsoft-365/security/defender-endpoint/advanced-features?view=o365-worldwide

I will suggest you to get check from Microsoft Licensing for these plans So that you can deploy Endpoints.

Hi, I am unable to even reach the onboarding phase, which that article refers to. The onboarding tab is inside the endpoints tab, which isnt appearing for me.

    Hello

I am Prakash and I will be glad to assist you today with your question.

Consider the Management Plane and the Security/Response Plane as competing. All of your security configurations must take place in GPO/SCCM/Intune, after which some advanced EDR features and every response take place in the security plane.
