Linked tables in word

Hi,

I'm working on a word document where there is a table for every page (there are 30 + pages).

I initially inserted a table to start off and then copied that table onto the remaining pages but there seems to be a problem with how i've done the copying.

Some of the tables are a table within their own right on a single page so when i right click and copy that table it only copies the one table. Whereas when i try and copy another table it copies lots of other tables, i've now posted a screenshot below so you can see.

Image 1 - I have clicked on the 4 arrows icon top left of table and this has selected the table that i am on.

Image 2- On a different table i have again clicked on the 4 arrows icon top left of table and it has copied the table i am on as well as numerous other table preceding. (it's a bit hard to see but if you zoom in you can see there are more than 1 table selected due to the grey shading underneath the header and also on the right hand side)

Image 3 - I have tried to insert a blank page in between the tales that seems to be linked (image 2) and image 3 is what it then looks like.

Note - I have no problem inserting a blank table in between the tables that are displayed in image 1 - I am able to position my cursor underneath the table and insert a page. BUT when i try and move my cursor underneath the tables that are linked, the cursor doesn't go underneath the table but stays in the table itself, i then try and insert a page and see image 3.

I hope that makes sense, hard to explain on here,

Thanks in advance if anyone can help

    Thanks for the screen shots.

However, a sample document would make it easier to diagnose the issue. If you don't want to make the sample public, accept Doug's offer and send it directly to him.

If you send me a copy of the document, referencing this thread in the covering email message, I will investigate the issue.

Keep in mind that a table will continue from one page to the next unless there is at least one text paragraph between them. You can select the top row of a table that seems to be linked and use Split Table (in the Merge group on the Layout tab of the contextual table tools (to the right of Table Design). This will insert an empty paragraph, though it may be above the table is the previous table fills the page.

Alternatively, if you do want the table to continue, you can format a row as "Page break before" without splitting the table, allowing the header row to be repeated.

Is it possible that you have inadvertently set the "Repeat as header row at the top of each page" option for one or more table rows? (This applies to tables which continue on at least one more page.)

If you can't get it sorted, consider sharing a sample document with the forum. You can upload it to (say) OneDrive or Dropbox and then post a share link in this thread.
